Nothing Is Impossible
I have been watching the story of RAYGUN – the B-girl who competed at the Paris Olympics. It is quite a story! As many of us have heard and seen, a 35-year-old Ph.D. teacher and student of dance was the Australian Olympic representative in Paris. She had been practicing break dancing for 20 years and won her spot to represent in Paris.
What an improbable story of someone starting in their 20s learning how to break dance and making it all the way to the Olympics. And what I want to say – is NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE! That is my take away from this story, and that passionate love of something creates unexpected outcomes.
Raygun Shows Us the Way
Here is a woman who scored 0 in all of her rounds at the Olympics – but you know what – SHE was THERE – she got to have all of the Olympic experiences – walking with her team in the opening ceremonies, hanging with all of the athletes. I have not heard her speak of all of that – but I have heard her say – she was sharing her creative spirit and unique approach with her breaking!
I think this story has all of the elements of how we need to approach the things we love in our lives…with NO concern for the outcome – and realizing NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE.
What? How did she make it all the way to the Olympic stage given her somewhat novice approach to breaking? I say there was something deep in her genuine approach that opened doors and is now making her a global phenomenon. I get it that the Olympics are about high achievement – but they are also about people with heart – pushing against all odds to be at this peak moment –why not Raygun? – why not YOU in whatever you are creating?
The Formula is to Follow Your Inspiration and Passion with No Expectation of the Outcome
One of my teachers says the formula for a satisfying life is to follow your inspiration and passion with NO EXPECTATION of the outcome. Given Raygun’s current viral moments – she could never had predicted this – never! She was following the joy of breaking – her way. And you may be saying – but the reactions are mostly negative and embarrassing – no way would I want that. But I have seen Raygun owning her talents – and not letting others define what is good and bad – right and wrong. I am going to say Raygun is a real icon of allowing yourself to express her magic fully…and share that this was a genuine expression of passion from her – all judging aside.
Raygun’s Olympic experience was against all odds….a once in a life time – where Break dancing finally made it to the Olympics, where she was the representative for her country. Just those odds alone are crazy. What I see is life bringing all of the components of possibly together to honor her – and her passion to do her thing. The synchronicities are astounding – magical in fact. And again, if they can happen for Raygun, these magical synchronicities can happen for you too!
Follow Your Joys and Let Them Take You To Unexpected Places
My point is that we all have passions and aspirations – and those that follow them with heart and joy and no expectation for the outcome might be very surprised at how life can create all manner of magical synchronicities together to honor you. Remember nothing is impossible – so follow your joys and let them take you to unexpected and magical places.
